Language Arts:
Our reading will focus on comprehension of informational texts. Attention and comprehension of reading materials is reinforced through the use of adapted books with additional picture supports. Science: We are learning about the 5 senses and how we use them to learn about our world. Life Skills: Students are learning about safety signs and what they tell us. MCAS-Alt: All students will be participating in the Reading, Math and Writing portions of the MCAS-Alt this year. Writing is now required for all students participating in the MCAS-Alt. Opportunities for Integration:
Our students successfully participate in a variety of integrated activities. Students enjoy art, library, lunch and recess with their peers. Our school is a warm and welcoming place for the Charms students. _______________________________ Every student is unique and the curriculum is tailored to meet their individual needs. Both commercial and teacher created curriculum are utilized in the classroom. Math: Math concepts are taught individually and in small groups based on the students individual skill level and Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Manipulatives and supports are utilized to promote the understanding of concepts.
Reading For All
All students participate in the Reading A to Z program. Books are chosen based on each child's interests and abilities. If you would like a copy of your child's reading book sent home please let me know. Sight words and phonics skills are taught to all students. Reading programs are designed to meet the individual student's needs. Supplemental reading is also utilized to enhance our reading program.
